Photonic Products, the UK optoelectronics device manufacturer and laser diode specialist, has announced the introduction of two new, high power, infrared wavelength GaAlaS laser diodes from Opnext, Inc. The HL8337MG and the HL8338MG are ideal as light sources for industrial and medical sensor applications and as a light source for various other types of optical equipment such as distance meters, barcode scanners and high resolution CTP.
The HL8337MG and the HL8338MG have a lasing wavelength of 830nm typ and a high optical output power of 50mW CW, a multi-quantum well structure, a small package size of 5.6mm and a built-in photodiode for monitoring laser output which allows for easier control of the auto power circuit.
An added benefit of these laser diodes is the low operating current of 75mA, which is the lowest driving current on the market for infrared applications. These laser diodes enable the power consumption to be lowered without sacrificing any optical output power, resulting in greater energy efficiency, extended battery lifetime and significant cost savings for OEMs. This has been achieved by optimising both the multi-quantum well structure and wave-guide structure of the laser diodes.
Supplied in a 5.6mm package with 1N (HL8337MG) or 3P (HL8338MG) type common cathode pin configuration, the single longitudinal mode laser diodes have an operating current of 75mA typ., a low threshold current of 20mA typ., low operating voltage of 1.9V typ., monitoring output current of 0.25mA, laser reverse voltage of 2V, PD reverse voltage of 30V at an infrared wavelength of 830nm.
The operating temperature range is -10 degrees Centigrade to +60 degrees Centigrade.
The Opnext HL8337MG and HL8338MG laser diodes are lead (pb) free in compliance with the RoHS Directive.
All Opnext laser diodes are registered with the FDA of the United States and each laser diode is classified into class II, IIIa, or IIIb, according to the combination of the optical output power and wavelength values.
